Mary and Musa Celebrate Double Anniversaries

Mary and Musa are couples living with HIV. No, no, let us put it this way.

Mary and Musa have lived with HIV for 20 years and as a couple for 24 years.

Today they celebrated what they termed the 20:24 anniversary at a little joint ( joint is a term used to mean a bar that serves food or roast meat and beverages) called Bahamas. Musa is a senior lecturer in Geology at two of Uganda's universities. He is popular among the oil Industry too.

Musa and Mary have shared four (4) tips we want to pass on to you as a person living with HIV.

1. Make it a habit to know your health provider, make friends with her/him, explore that friendship which will enable you to call the provider and arrange impromptu appointments when you feel you have an emergency or something/anything wrong.

2. If you are earning money, set some aside for travel, nutrition and good housing. You need to make the journeys to your clinic during refill or check up days; you need to go out to places like parks for recreation; you have to feed well.

3. You need to keep your health in such a way that it is easier for your body to adjust to changes, especially treatment switches. The best way one can do that is by feeding well, exercising well and ensuring they do not miss their medical check-ups.

4. Build networks through which you can fix many of the vulnerabilities that HIV causes.

We could not keep Mary and Musa for long, we let them go. They deserve their space.

Happy Double 20:24 Anniversary!
